Executive Director- Candy



Sherrie Zantea (Candy) has been writing and performing poetry for over 26 years. Candy made the 2007 Dallas Poetry Slam Team, and to date has been on 13 poetry slam teams, the first woman to coach 8 and she is the current CEO of the Dallas Poetry Slam Organization. Candy is one of the Lead Instructors for the Literary Arts in the DFW School Districts. She recently created a teaching artist program for Dallas Poetry Slam that partners with youth organizations in the country. Candy is the current Program Director for The Writer's Garret which is a Learning Partner for Big Thought Youth Development Non-Profit and the Dallas Independent School District as well as other school districts in the surrounding areas.

In addition to her poetry slam experience, she has added to her resume, Host City Coordinator for 3 Women of the World Poetry Slam Competitions, 2020 International Team Poetry Slam, and the Individual World Poetry Slam. She continues to organize events throughout the country. Candy was a speaker at the inaugural TedxFrisco
She maintains a lucrative partnership with WordSpace Non-Profit literacy organization. Candy facilitates workshops with schools and universities across the county. Candy has published a poetry/recipe book "Heirlooms", a spiritual chapbook, “Sherrie’s Sanctuary”, her upcoming project “Oak Cliff-Hangers, Stories from
a Snowglobe” is set to be released in August 2020.
